Ranting...

Okay this is my pet peeve... As an author I know how good you feel when you get a review on something you’ve written. Just to know that your muse was able invoke emotions in a reader that makes them feel compelled to comment on your work.
But it absolutely drives me crazy when authors ask for comments. I can even understand as a writer that sometime positive reinforcement and encouragement is enough to keep you pounding away at the keyboard. If someone is moved enough to leave a comment that’s great, but the story I’m reading right now (on Midnight Whispers) the author is practically begging for praise.
They use all caps and ask you to leave a comment before each chapter, and at the end of every chapter. To be honest it’s a real turn off. Maybe it’s just me, but it borders on desperation. Sure I wish I received more comments. But when I do get them I really appreciate them, because I feel like my audience leaves them because they’re heartfelt, not required. Did I mention that said author, doesn’t reply to their comments… Really?
Okay I’m done bitching…

My turn my turn. I'm with rulisteningbj.
Don't ask me to take the time to comment on your story if you can't take the time to respond. A thank you goes a long way.
Do you feel like you don't have to respond because YOU took the time to write and post the chapter? We the readers don't have to comment yet WE took the time to read it.
There, I'm done. Love to vent.

Even worse is when people don't even take the time to answer said comments. It doesn't really seem fair to only receive and never even attempt to give back... and besides, what good is it to get a comment and not engage with the person who took the time not only to read your work but to leave something on it? Sharing is half the fun!
