I was very disappointed years ago when Michigan joined so many other state’s putting a ban on gay marriage; now with a little luck we just might change that law. There is currently a court case in Michigan that is challenging the state’s law ban on gay marriage. It was pasted ten years ago in 2004, and since then many states have legalized gay marriage and over turned bans on gay marriage.
The crux of the case centers on the legal issue about raising children in a same-sex marriage. Both women have adopted children, and they are challenging the law that currently doesn’t allow them both legal status as parents of each others children. With an emphasis on the issue of who could legally raise the children in case of disability or death. The attorney general of Michigan is taking the stand that the citizens of Michigan voted to ban gay marriage. Saying that marriage is between one man, and one woman, claiming that it is ‘the will of the people.’
Here’s a link to a reuters article concerning this case;

I’m keeping my fingers crossed as we make our way through the court system. I’ll keep you posted on the outcome.
