I think I'll call her Sunshine...

Okay the strangest thing happened the day after I put my sweet Zoey to sleep. I came home and my neighbor told me that there was three kittens living under my back deck. I caught just a glimpse of two of them really just for a few seconds. I called my vet, and she told me to buy them kitten milk replacement formula and to feed them kitten food softened up in the milk.

So I did, and I put some of Zoey's food out in case the mother cat was under the deck as well. According to the vet the kitten milk is really good for the mother, it helps her to produce more milk. I’ve now seen the mother cat a couple of times, buts she’s very frightened of people. I hoping to build her trust and be able to bond with her over time. She looks just like the first cat I had as a child, Charlie... Squeeze…

She had the kittens out in the back of the yard sleeping in a flower bed of irises this afternoon. OF course she was too far away to really see the kittens, but I could just make out one of their little heads that popped up when I was watering my garden. I can’t wait until I can hold and pet them, but it seems like that’s a long way off. The mother, whom I think of as Sunshine, runs away when she sees me and I’m closer to her than twenty feet. So of course I can’t get close enough to take her picture, but here's one I download that looks like her…

Isn't it strange that the universe brings me new kitties, while I’m morning the loss of my sweet Zoey…

It really is unbelievable... Now I just need her to trust me. Tomorrow is the 4th of July, a big fireworks holiday. I sure wish she'd let me touch her and the kittens. I'd bring them into the house. I can only imagine how frightened their going to be...

But I know it will take time, but I'm patient...

That is so cool. I adopted a stray cat years ago. She was the same way. But I just kept at it, and I'd talk to her when I saw her. Eventually she became my best friend. She's gone now but she was one of the best pets I ever had.

I just glad it's July, hopefully I'll have time before the fall and winter for us to bond. She already feels like one of the family, I'm already worrying about her...

It is strange how things work out. I'm feeling very positive, she just needs time... I'm so glad she's at my house, I can't even imagine how she was surviving before I started feeding her...

I'm def not a cat person (Sorry, Randy lol ) but as an avid dog person I know how you feel ATM. IDK much about stray so I'm not sure if the mom and kittens would stay around for a long time but I'm keeping my fingers for you that they will. I LOVE the name Sunshine.

Kathleen that's wonderful!! We have 5 stray cats at work that me and a few others take care of. Mom, Dad and three kitties. There were others, but some people at work took them home. These others have been there too long. We did trap them and had them fixed, but we put them back. The vet said that would be best. We feed them and bought them little houses for the bad weather.They run to us when they see us as they know its time to eat, but they run away otherwise if we get too close. I hope things go well with Sunshine and family!!

It's great that you can take care of them... I can't help worrying about them if we don't bond enough before winter. Last winter it was so, so cold and we has several feet of snow most of the winter... Besides I really want to hold, and pet them...

I really had hoped so too... But she only stayed under the deck a few days, then she moved her kittens. I've been feeding her, so she still comes around about once a day. I guess that's all I can do is try and provide her with food and water...

She's still very stand-offish and I doubt that she's going to change. So I guess its not meant to be, its out of my control. So I guess this means that my new kitty is still out there waiting until the right time...
